Fall 2012
Master's in Educational Technology Coursework
The courses throughout the MAET program challenged me to think about technology in many different ways. Below you will find brief descriptions of each course and the impact they had on my thinking, as well as some examples of work completed.
Spring 2012
CEP 815
Technology and Leadership
Instructors: William Cain, Joshua Rosenberg, Nick Sheltrown, Leigh Graves-Wolf
In this course, I explored what it meant to be a leader of technology. Different leadership styles were presented and students had in-depth discussions about the benefits and drawbacks of each type of leadership role. In addition, we discussed what it looked like to be a leader in a school and how effective leaders approach their roles!
Example of Work: Sustainability Technology Project
Summer 2011
CEP 812
Applying Educational Technology
Instructors: Charles Commeret, Jodi Spicer
In this course, I explored a significant instructional problem and developed ways to solve this problem with technology. I worked individually as well as in group to create a desktop presentation that attempted to solve this instructional problem.
CEP 810
Teaching Understanding with Technology
Instructors: C McCarthey, Jodi Spicer
The first of the three certificate courses, this course focused on how to effectively use technology in education. The most important example of effective technology use revolves around using TPACK in lesson planning.
CEP 820
Teaching K-12 Students Online
Instructor: Leigh Graves-Wolf
One of the most valuable courses in my opinion, CEP 820 introduced the idea of Learning Management Systems (LMS) in the classroom. Although I have had obvious experience at MSU with ANGEL, I had never considered how an LMS would look in my own classroom. This course challenged me to build my own LMS and create a unit that students in my class could use.
CEP 807
Capstone Portfolio Course
The final course in our Educational Technology journey! This course is designed for students to create an ePortfolio that can be used as we leap into the next step in our journey in education. I worked to create an ePortfolio, worked with others to critique and offer suggestions to each other and finally present our hard work to faculty at Michigan State University.
CEP 822
Approaches to Educational Research
Instructor: Leigh Graves-Wolf
Research and education go hand in hand. In this course, I explored how research plays a role in everything I do in school. I focused on research can have an impact on teachers and students, as well as student achievement in the classroom.
CEP 800
Learning in School and Other Settings
Instructors: Cary Roseth, Zachary Mural
The way students learn is the main focus of this course. I learned about several different perspectives on learning, theories surrounding student learning and connected each to my own learning experiences throughout my career as a student and a teacher.
CEP 811
Adapting Innovative Technology
Instructors: Jodi Spicer, Melissa White
I used technology to solve an instructional problem in this course. I developed strategies where technology could be used to better this problem and then tested these strategies. To do this, I was challenged to create a stand-alone project that could benefit students and solve the problem.
Example of Work: STAIR Project
